The Tasman region is home to some of the most stunning scenery in New Zealand, with Golden Bay and the Abel Tasman National Park. There are golden sand beaches and many natural attractions in the area.
The surf in the area is only available on the west coast, as the rest of Golden Bay is sheltered from any swell. The west coast gets the same swell from the deep south as the lower west coast, however, it is usually a bit smaller as the swell usually needs to bend around the top of the island. The Tasman breaks are very remote and not known for good surf, so there are no crowds and you will often have the surf to yourself.
When it's flat, there are many activities to enjoy, including walking trails, mountain bike tracks, rock climbing, fishing, swimming, boating, kayaking and golf. Some attractions not to be missed include: Farewell Spit, Te Waikoropupu (Pupu) Springs, Wainui Falls, Harwoods Hole, Ngarua Caves, Paynes Ford Scenic Reserve and the abundance of beautiful beaches.
