Bay of Plenty is home to New Zealand's version of 'Surfers Paradise', with quality breaks located next to the city of Tauranga and the township of Mt. Maunganui. The Mount as it's known locally, has beautiful Main Beach which can be super fun, Matakana Island is worth a mission for the experienced surfer and all the beaches are blessed with warm water most the year round.  The coastline is peppered with beach breaks that have proven to be summer favourites for many kiwis and tourists alike. The more adventurous surfers will be able to find some more remote spots, especially with access to a boat, or if they don't mind paddling a fair way.
