Bowentown

Bowntown is a right hand beach break on a sandy beach, located at the northern tip of Matakana Island. You will need to paddle across the channel from Bowentown, Seaforth Road. You can also take a boat or take the ferry, you can take your car across on the ferry. note you are not allowed to paddle the channel between Matakana Island and Mount Maunganui. There is a good right hand break into the right mouth, and several peaks along the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. Good for Intermediate to expert surfers.

Directions 

From Tauranga City, head west out of tauranga on Takitimu Drive, State Highway 2. Turn right onto Arthenree Road and Continue onto Steele Road, then turn right onto Emerton Road. Turn right onto Seaforth Road and take this right down to the end of Bowentown. From here its a paddle across the channel to matakana Island. You can also take a boat or take the ferry, you can take your car across on the ferry. You are not allowed to paddle across the channel between south Matakana Island and Mount Maunganui.
