Waiapu

Waiapu is a beach break on a shingle beach, located at the mouth of the Waiapu River. The wave is punchy and fun, but it can change depending on water movement and shingle banks. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers.

Tokomaru Bay

Tokomaru Bay is a right hand point on a rocky beach, located north at the north end of Tokomaru Bay. The wave is hollow and powerful with a fast drop in. Suitable for advanced surfers.

Anaura Bay

Anaura Bay is a beach break on a sandy beach, located north of Tolaga Bay. There are several peaks to choose from along the beach and around the island, with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. Suitable for all surfers.

Marau Point

Marau Point is a right hand point break on a rocky point, located north of Tolaga Bay. Also known as 3 Points for the 3 distinct sections round the point. The point is hollow and powerful with several sections to play with. Requires a big swell to get working. There are also several beach break peaks up Marau Beach which offer some fun waves. Expert surfers only.

Kaiaua Bay is a beach break on a golden sand beach, located north of Gisborne, just north of Tolaga Bay. There are several peaks to choose from along the beach with both right and left handers on offer. The wave is punchy and fun. suitable for all surfers.

Loisells Beach is a beach break on a golden sand beach, also known as Waihau Bay, located north of Gisborne. There are several peaks to choose from along the beach with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. suitable for all surfers.

Whangara

Whangara is a beach break on a golden sand beach, located north of Gisborne. There are several peaks to choose from along the beach with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. There is also a good left hander off the south side of Whangara island which produces nice long rides. suitable for all surfers.

North Makorori Reef is a left hand point break on a rocky point, located at the northern end of Makorori Beach, in the next bay north of Wainui. The wave is soft and fat, great mal wave. suitable for all surfers. Popular spot, so know the rules and respect the locals.
