Description:

Karamea is a beach break and river mouth bar on a soft shingle beach. You can surf any where along this section of coastline where you will find various peaks to choose from all the way along. The wave is usually punchy and can get a hollow shorey. Best for intermediate to expert surfers. River mouths often have strong currents and rips, so watch out.

Directions:
From Westport head north out of town on Brougham Street, State Highway 67. Continue on State Highway 67 all the way until you get to karamea. When entering karamea turn left onto bridge Street and cross the River. At Market Cross turn left onto Waverley Street, then turn right onto Wharf Road, then left onto Flagstaff Road, and find a park at the beach. You can surf anyway along this section of coastline.
