Description:

Westport breakwater is located at the  mouth of the Buller River. It can be surfed on either side of the breakwater and both sides feature a sandy beach with a peaky beach break. Westport breakwater waves offer both right and left handers, and produce puncy waves with steep, gnarly drop ins. Intermediate to expert surfers. River mouths often have strong currents and rips so watch out.

Directions:
You can either go to the East side of the breakwater or the West side of the breakwater. East Breakwater: From Westport head north on Derby Street, then turn left onto Coates Street and take this all the way out to the breakwater. West Breakwater: From Westport head out of town on Palmerston Stree, over the Buller River bridge. Turn right onto Capefoulwind Road State Highway 67A. Turn right onto Golf Links Road, then right onto Schadick Ave. The road will change to Tiphead Road all the way out to the breakwater.
