Description:

Punakaiki Beach is a sandy beach with the popular pancake rocks and Blowhole on the rocky point at the Southern end of the beach, which is a popular tourist spot. The beach features a beach break with several peaks to choose from, or usually best on the left hander off the blowhole rocks, southern end of the beach at low tide. The wave is usually a bit fat, but punchy fun waves. At high tide you get a bouch back off the shore. Good for learners or all abilities. Punakaiki is quite shelted from strong winds and picks up good swell and is usually bigger than other spots.

Directions:
From Greymouth cross the Grey River and turn right, heading north on State Highway 6. Continue until you get to Punakaiki village and continue down the hill then park in the first carpark on the left. Or you can turn left onto either Mabel, Webb or Owen Street, then find a park on Dickinson Parade, to surf further down the beach.
