Slipperies is a left had point break located on the north side of the Whakataki River, out front of the Whakataki Hotel. The wave has good Power, with a steep, fast drop in and peeling wall. Good for surfers of all levels.
Castlepoint Beach is a sandy beach break out front of Castlepoint Village. The beach is quite exposed to the wind. There are several peaks along the beach to choose from, offering both right and left-handers. Good, fun, soft waves to be had. Suitable for beginner surfers.
Xmas Bay is a beach break on a sandy beach, over the hill to the south of The Gap Castlepoint. Picks up good south swell. There are several peaks down the beach to choose from, offering both right and left handers. Good fun, punchy waves. Good for surfers of all levels.
The Gap is an amazing wee break where the swell just passes through a small opening into the inlet and breaks on the sandy beach. The beach has a tight curve creating a perfect A frame, with some long walls and it can barrel. Its gets shelted from strong winds keeping the surface nice and smooth. It needs a decent size swell to get in the inlet, especially if the swel angles not quite right. Best from 2 to 6 foot. Good for all levels.
