Description:

Muriwai is a solid beach break on Aucklands west coast. Its a very popular spot in the summer. It producers several peaks down the beach, with plenty of left and right handers. There are often rips and dangerous currents, so better for the experienced surfers especially on big days. Theres also a left hander off the rocks at the south end of the beach. It gets crowded so know the rules and watch out for swimmers.
The Muriwai Surf School is a great place for lessons, board hire, and advice on surfing in the area.

Directions:
From Auckland, take the North Western Motorway State Highway 16 out of the city, through Kumeu. At Waimauku turn left onto Muriwai Road. At Muriwai turn right onto either Motutara Road or Waitea Road, down to the beach and surf club. This will be really busy in the summer season, especially on weekends.
