Description:

Karitane point is on the north side of the Huriawa Peninsula and features a right hand point break off the rocks out in front of the Waikouaiti River mouth. The wave is a long, hollow, barrelling right hander with a gnarly drop in. The other section breaks close to the rocks and seaweed, but produces some epic waves. Either climb down the rocks or paddle out the river mouth to enter the line up. Best for Advanced to expert surfers. River mouths often have strong currents or rips, so watch out.

Directions:
From Dunedin head north on State Highway 1 over the hills. Just past the Evansdale Cheese Factory, turn right onto Coast Road to Karitane. In Karitane turn left onto Barvas Street, then left onto Sulisker Street/Karitane Reserve Road, then left onto either Rockal Street or Old Head Street. Find a park along here. You can either climb down the rocks to the surf or paddle out the river mouth.
