From Wellington head north out of the city on State Highway 1. Turn left where the signs point to Porirua, still on State Highway 1. Continue past Porirua and Paremata, then turn left onto Steyne Ave past the Paremata train station. Turn left onto Beach Road, which continues onto Sunset Parade. Find a park near the train station or by Victory park and check the surf on both sides of the point.
