Motu River mouth is a right hand point on a shingle/stoney river mouth, located just north of Houpoto and south of Whitianga Bay. The wave is a good quality right hander which produces hollow barrels and peels along for long rides. Suitable for advanced to expert surfers.

From Whakatane head east through Opotiki and change from State Highway 2 onto State Highway 35. Take this all the way along the coast past Houpoto, then over the Motu River. find a park on the north side of the river near the river mouth.
