Ohope Beach
Ohope Beach is a nice local beach near Whakatane. Its a beach break on a grey sand beach. Best at the west end of the beach where its gets a little more sheltered under the hill. There are many other peaks down the beach. Ohope Beach provides variable beach break conditions, depending on tide and sand movement. Can have nice wally waves. Good for surfers of all levels. Popular beach in summer so watch out for swimmers.

Directions
From Whakatane center, go east on The Strand, then turn right onto George Street, then right again onto Hillcrest Road. Continue straigh on Hillcrest Road and onto Ohope Road, over the hill to Ohope. At Ohope Beach, turn left onto West End Road, and check out the west end of the beach, as it usually the best.
