Sponge Bay
Sponge Bay is a beach break on a sandy/rocky beach, located between Gisborne City Centre and Wainui Beach. There are several peaks to choose from with both right and left handers. At the eastern end of the beach is a left hander and at the western end is a right hander. The wave is wally and fun, but requires a good size swell to get working. Good learners wave and suitable for all levels of surfer.

Directions
From Gisborne Town Centre, drive east on Gladstone Road, onto Wainui Road, State Highway 35, towards Wainui. Start going up the hill to Wainui and turn right onto Sponge Bay Road. Drive to the end of the road and Sponge Bay beach.
