Waipaoa River
Waipaoa River Mouth is a beach break/river mouth break on a sandy/shingle river mouth beach, located at the mouth of the Waipaoa River on the south side of Gisborne. There are several peaks with both left and right handers, and a bit of a right hand point on the southern side of the river mouth. The wave is punchy and powerful, depending on river bar conditions its not often working well but this place can get good. When on, this place can get crowded, so know the rules and respect the locals. leave this one to the advanced and expert surfers.

From Gisborne City Centre, near the clock tower on Gladstone Road, travel west, then turn south onto Stanley Road, and go all the way to the end, Midway Surf Life Saving Club, beside Watson Park. Turn right onto Centennial Marine Drive and head down to the end of the road, beside the river mouth.
