Matarangi
Matarangi is a beach break and river bar break on a sandy beach, located at Matarangi and the mouth of the Whangapoua Harbour. Matarangi Beach has several peaks along the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. There is also the river bar break at the west end of the beach at the mouth of the Whangapoua harbour. is a fairly sheltered bay and needs a decent swell to get it working. The wave is punchy and fun. Coromandel beaches are popular, so Know the rules and respect the locals. Good for beginner to expert surfers.

Matarangi is located on the east side of the Coromandel peninsula, near the northern tip, on State Highway 25.
From Thames head north on Queen Street, State Highway 25. You will go round the northern tip of the Coromandel Peninsula towards the east side. Continue all the way to Matarangi and turn left onto Matarangi Road, then continue onto Matarangi Drive all the way down near the western end of the beach.
