Description: 

Whangamata Estuary is at the southern end of Whangamata Beach, a beautiful white sand beach. Whangamata Estuary has a right hand break off the bar at the mouth to the estuary, and also some beach break peaks along from the estuary. When its on the wave has a hollow drop in with a barrel section, but is changable depending on sand movement. Whangamata can get very crowded especially in the holiday season, so watch out for swimmers. Whangamata is best for experienced surfers. being a river mouth watch out for rips and currents.

Directions: 
Whangamata is on the east side of the coromandel peninsula, on Highway 25. If coming from the north, Continue past the first road into Whangamata then you get to Port Road and turn right, then take the first left onto Achilles Road and first left onto Otahu Road. Continue on Otahu Road to the end of the road, then turn right and find a park near the beach at the beach at the estuary. If coming from the South on State Highway 25, continue onto Port Road, then as your just entering Whangamata town, turn right onto Achilles Road and first left onto Otahu Road. Continue on Otahu Road to the end of the road, then turn right and find a park near the beach at the beach at the estuary. There is a Surf Lifesaving Club located on Lowe Street, By Williamson Park.
