Whatarangi Point Outer Reef
Whatarangi Outer Reef is just north of the Whatarangi village where the big cliffs meet the coast, and features a left hand point break and a outer reef peak when the swells big. The left hand point it a good, fast, long wave with several sections to play with. When its big the outer reef peak starts working, with both right and left handers, a big powerful wave with a long paddle out to it. Best for intermediate to expert surfers.

Directions
From Featherston drive east on State Highway 53, then turn right onto Kahutara Road and take it to the end. Turn right onto Lake Ferry Road. the turn left onto Cape Palliser Road and continue round to just before Whatarangi where the big cliffs come down to the coast.
From Wellington take State Highway 2 north, out throught Upper Hutt, along to Featherston. Then follow directions from Featherston. Approx 120mins from Wellington to Lake Ferry. From Masterton take State Highway 2 south, through Carterton and Greytown, along to Featherston. Then follow directions from Featherston. Approx 90mins from Masterton to Lake Ferry.
