Motunau Island
Motunau Island has right and left point breaks on a rocky offshore island, located off Motunau beach and the Motunau village, north Canterbury. There is a right hand point on the north east side of the island and a left hander on the south west side of the island. The wave is punchy and hollow. Good for intermediate to expert surfers. You will need a boat to get out to the island, boat ramp in river mouth and needs to be round high tide to be able to launch.

Motunau Island is located off Motunau beach and the Motunau village, north Canterbury.
From Christchurch head north on State Highway 1, through Amberley and Waipara, until you get to Greta Valley. At Greta Valley turn right onto Motunau Beach Road and continue all the way to Motunau. Drive through the Motunau village down to the beach front on The Parade. Find a park and check the surf. From here you will need a boat to get out to the island, boat ramp in river mouth and needs to be round high tide to be able to launch.
