Description:

Goughs Bay is a good beach break on the end of Banks Peninsula so it picks up plenty of swell, however is uaully a bit smaller than Hickory Bay. It is a sandy beach with a reasonable gradient allowing the surf to break closer to shore. Not many people make it down to Goughs Bay so crowds aren't a problem. You will need to ask the farmer for permission to cross his land to get to the beach.

Directions:
From Christchurch head toward Akaroa on State Highway 75. When you get to the Takamatua Road hill turn left and head up Long Bay Road to the Summit Road. When you get to that intersection, go straight ahead called Goughs Road. Take it easy down here, its shingle, narrow, windy and bumpy. When you get to the bottom you will need to ask the farmer for permission to cross his land, and will need to open and close several gates driving through. Park right at the beach front. Be sure to take whatever you take in out. No camping, fires or Toilet, so be prepared.
