Description:

Okiwi Bay, also known as Sandy Bay, is north of Kaikoura featuring a beach break on a sandy beach. The wave is nice and easy, either soft and fat or it can get a good wall to it, with both right and left handers on offer. Best at a lower tide. Watch out for the boulders and seaweed in the shorey. Good learners wave, this is where the local surf school usually comes. The beach gets sheltered from the north east wind so can be good when everywhere else is wind blown.

Directions:
From Kaikoura head north on State Highway 1 for about 15-20 mins. Okiwi Bay is sign posted and has a small camping ground with toilet and start point to some walking tracks. You can also drive down closer to the beach and camp amoungst the sand dunes. At the north end of the beach there is a large gravel parking spot with picnic benches.
