Waitara
Waitara is a river mouth beach break on a sandy/shingle beach, located at the mouth to the Waitara River, on the east side of the river mouth. There can be a couple of peaks to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and hollow, with barrels on offer. There is also a good left hander on the western side of the river mouth which can be worth a look. Suitable for all levels of surfer.

Directions
From New Plymouth city centre head east on Devon Street east, then continue onto State Highway 3 out of town. When you get near Waitara turn left onto Devon Street and onto Nelson Street, heading into Waitara. the road will turn to the right onto McLean Street and across the Waitara River. Turn left onto Leslie Street, then left onto Howard Street, which will bring you to the beach on the eastern side of the river, and also the board riders club.
