Waiwhakaiho
Waiwhakaiho is a river mouth beach break on a sandy beach, located at the mouth to the Waiwhakaiho River, east end of Fitzroy beach. There can be a couple of peaks to choose from with both right and left handers. the lefts are much longer than the rights. The wave is punchy and hollow, with barrels on offer. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers. Popular beach, so Know the rules and respect the locals.

Directions
From New Plymouth city centre head east on Devon Street east, then continue straight onto Clemow Road. Follow this all the way around past the golf course and lake to the breakwater at the eastern end of Fitzroy beach. From here its a paddle across the Waiwhakaiho River to the eastern side of the mouth. Alternatively you can head to Fitzroy beach and walk along the coastal walk way to the eastern end of the beach and across the river.
