Waipoua Reefs
Waipoua Reefs has several right hand point breaks on rocky points with sandy beaches. Waipoua Reefs is located a long walk south of the Wairau River. The wave is powerful and hollow, with barrels on offer. Solid performance waves. Best for expert surfers only.

Waipoua Reefs is located about an hours walk south of the Wairau River, south of Waimamaku, on the west coast of Northland.
From Kaitaia head south on South Road, State Highway 1, out of town. Turn right onto Mangamuka Road, then turn left onto Kohukohu Road. Continue onto West Coast Road. Take the Rawene to Kohukohu ferry across to Rawene. Go West on Parnell Street, and continue onto Rawene Road. Turn right onto State Highway 12. Continue past the Waimamaku River and from here you will need to make your way through the Waipoua Kauri Forest tracks to the beach. May need to ask a local for guidance. You can walk south about an hour from the Waimamaku River.
