Supertubes
Supertubes is well known for excellent surf. It is a left hand point break on a rocky point, located west round the point from Shipwreck Bay, and west of Ahipara. There are four distinct sections on the point starting with the furthest west, 'Pines', then onto 'Supertubes', 'Mukie2', then 'Mukie1' the closest east. Supertubes is often the best wave of the four. The wave is solid with a steep drop in, into a mean barrel section, then onto a wally section. This is a real performance wave. Supertubes is a long walk to get to or if you have a 4WD, you can drive around on the beach. Be careful of rips. Best for advanced to expert surfers.

Directions
Supertubes is located on the west coast of Northland - west round the point from Shipwreck Bay, and west of Ahipara.
From Kaitaia, head southwest out of town on Redan Street, then continue straight on Pukepoto Road. When you get to Ahipara, continue straight on Foreshore Road, over the Wairoa River. The road will change to gravel. Continue west along the shoreline to the western end of the bay and turn right onto Wreck Bay Road. Drive to the end of the road and find a park. From here it is either a long walk west round the point or you can drive along the beach with a 4WD. Careful - can be dangerous and tidal.
